CAMBODIA

Rising from the jungle in ethereal pillars of moss and stone, Angkor Wat Temple Complex is the world’s largest religious structure. Over the course of 600 years, dozens of rulers who considered themselves part god, part king added to the sprawling synthesis of nature and architecture. This amalgamation is most evident at Ta Prohm, where strangler figs spill like liquid over 39 temples in various stages of ruination. The offering-strewn altars within the heart of many of the temples are tended by a ‘wat granny’ –who have taken maintain the religious buildings through meditation and prayer.

The temples are still active centres of faith and everyday life today, both Hindu and Buddhist.
